The Goers and their fans complain or a few give you props. Still lose eveytime. Went 5 for 5 losses and now regret spending an hour on blitzball.

However, even if the Goers get the ball and score first, this guide gives you a significant strategic advantage, so that you will score every time your side gets the ball whereas they will not. This guide does solve the second problem you mentioned. For several seconds after kickoff, your rear defenders will not yet have any Goers near them, so passing the ball to them gives you time to activate manual steering before you have to worry about the Goers' forwards.
If you're having problems with timing, punch square immediately after that and pass the ball to your opposite rear defender, who should still not have Goers near him. Sadly this page whilst more detailed than many other guides has the same FAIL. It doesn't say how to get the ball of the goers. So basically the game starts, a goer catches the ball, they then proceed to score so down before I even touch the ball, the guide doesn't address this. Second I can't pass right away when I get the ball, the game seems to want a sec delay before the menu will come up, often I am caught before then and forced to try a break or pass through blocker.
This guide only tells you what to do whilst you have the ball but not whilst the goers have the ball.
