Rafe returned the favor by revealing that Nicole had swapped the babies and EJ and Sami were reunited with Sydney. Sami and EJ grew closer when Syndey was kidnapped, but it turned out that EJ had teamed up with Anna DiMera to fake the abduction so he could be the big hero when he brought the girl home safe. So as Sami and EJ prepared to remarry, Rafe interrupted the ceremony with proof of his crimes. Fearing that EJ might kidnap her children, Sami went to confront him, but finding him passed out drunk and holding a gun she just shot him in the head!
After EJ recovered, he was determined to find out who had tried to kill him. Arianna Hernandez had proof, but died in a hit-and-run before she could give it to him. Nicole found it and she and EJ got married so they could take custody of the kids away from Sami.
Nicole found them together and took her revenge by helping expose that EJ and the DiMeras were behind replacing Rafe with an evil look-alike. EJ decided to change his ways again, giving Sami back custody of the twins and running for Mayor of Salem with Nicole managing his campaign. But he used underhanded methods to try and win, framing John for corporate embezzlement.
In the process, E. He recruited Justin to help him maneuver shares and stock holder votes so that E. There had been several attempts on Rafe's life, and E. With it, he got possession of the mansion and the private plane.
However, Sami soon needed E. The case got more difficult when a video of Sami attacking Bernardi surfaced. Sami was charged with first degree murder and denied bail. But the prosecutor was able to prove that the money was planted. Desperate, E. Stefano had the razor that would prove Sami's story. He was willing to produce it if E. Reluctantly, E. A few hours later, the police found the razor, a Moroccan bank account, and an email trail depicting an affair between Bernardi and a nurse at the hospital.
All of the charges against Sami were dropped. Sami was furious with the idea of moving back into the mansion. She asked E. Reluctantly, she agreed to move into the mansion and stood by E. The final term of Stefano's deal was for E. One day at Chad's apartment, Chad happened to stumble upon some papers about treatment for brain tumors. Scared because of what happened to Lexie, E.
Chad confessed that he didn't have a brain tumor, but Cameron had diagnosed him with one. Since Cameron and Chad were competing for the same girl, Abigail, Chad let Cameron continue to think that Chad was dying from a brain tumor so that Cameron would back off Abigail. Still, E. On the night of Sami and E. Her mission was to shoot E. But, Chad stepped in front of E. He was rushed to the hospital. With Chad on the operating table and needing specific drugs, E. Chad recovered from the gunshots, but the doctors discovered a problem with Chad's heart that required immediate surgery.
The specialist was in Boston. With Chad and Stefano out of the house, E. He didn't want her to put it off and agreed to stand up for her as her "man of honor. Kristen begged E. Sami knew that E. They all headed to the church for Brady and Kristen's wedding, with Eric officiating.
However, Victor had just gotten his hands on the video and convinced an unknowing Marlena to play the tape of Kristen raping Eric at the wedding. Everyone was horrified and Kristen ran out of the church, eventually fleeing Salem. But, Sami did not believe it. When Sami confessed to E. He hoped that his help would convince Sami that she could trust him again. When Abigail was getting close to figuring out that something happened between Gabi and Nick before Nick "left town", E.
But, the two ended up sleeping together. Their affair didn't stop there. After an alive Nick showed up at Arianna's christening, Sami encouraged E. Their affair wasn't the only thing getting out of hand. The women were furious to hear that he had been faking him memory the previous few weeks and suspicious of why he didn't blame Gabi as well. Nick insisted that the two of them had manipulated Gabi. Nick explained that he was able to hold onto a branch in the river and a man -- Percy, who was bird watching at the river at the time -- pulled him to safety.
Percy insisted that Nick call the police. But Nick told Percy that he would make it worth his while if he didn't involve the police.
Percy agreed. It also turned out that Percy had pictures of the women throwing Nick's body into the river, which he sold to Nick. By this time, Abigail couldn't stop thinking about E. So she followed him one day to his gym.
The two had sex in the shower when Sami walked in. Abigail heard Sami talk about the fact that E. Abigail started to realize that she was only with E. He accepted most of the blame for their affair. But, he reiterated that what happened between them was a mistake. He was in love with Sami. Eventually, Abigail conceded that their affair was over.
He was even happier when this news made Sami realize that she wanted to set a wedding date -- May However, it wouldn't be an easy road to the altar. Nick insisted to Gabi that he didn't go to the police because he just wanted a fresh start.
Gabi believed him. But Sami and Kate didn't buy his story at all. Sami kept E. If Nick got too confident, he'd mess up. Slowly, Nick started to show his true colors to other people.
He blackmailed E. He found a lawyer for Gabi and urged her to sign custody papers that would only allow Will to see Arianna every other weekend. He got into a physical altercation with Abigail's new friend, Ben, who had stepped in to protect Abigail when Nick grabbed her arm.
Everyone seemed to be growing tired of Nick. The only person who still believed in him was Julie. She had a heart-to-heart with him one night about how she used to cause trouble too, was angry with the world, but was given another chance.
She urged Nick to get professional help and embrace the second chance he'd been given. Tearfully, Nick thanked her, agreed to have dinner with her later, and left a message for Marlena, asking her to set him up with some mental health care. But as he was leaving the message, Nick was shot three times. He stumbled to the square and collapsed in Julie's arms. He died a short time later. Hope led the investigation to find his shooter.
It turned out that Gabi had finally overheard Nick's threats to Sonny, retrieved a gun from the closet, and shot Nick to death. She turned herself into the police and plead guilty. In light of his death and Gabi going to jail, Sami and E. But what E. So, Sami found out about the affair at the time of Nick's death in May.
She was furious and adamant that she get revenge on both of them. So, she kept the July wedding date and began plotting. She asked Abigail to be her maid of honor -- an offer that Abigail couldn't refuse without looking suspicious. She loaded Abigail down with tasks and made Abigail watch frequent grand displays of affection between Sami and E.
She also took on more responsibilities at work and knew that at an upcoming DiMera board meeting, Stefano might try to remove E. She persuaded that Stefano was working with Kate to sabotage them.
However, the truth was that Kate and Sami had teamed up to get revenge on both men. On the day of the wedding, Sami sent anonymous, incriminating evidence against E. Sami pretended to be outraged. Sami agreed with him. Knowing that he couldn't attend the board meeting from jail, E.
Sami agreed. Because of the pending charges against the whole company, Stefano opted not to risk arrest by return to the country. So he struck a similar deal with Kate. The board approved the motion. Kate and Sami were officially in charge of DiMera Enterprises for at least six months.
Sami returned to the jail cell to tell E. But Sami was furious and left him there. When he made bail, he went straight home and began working to win Sami back.
He knew that she would need help with some of the board members. He also helped Nicole when her ex-husband, Dean Trent Robbins, revealed that they were still married. Eventually EJ was caught between his attraction to Nicole and his love for Sami. Since Sami made it clear that she didn't share his feelings, EJ began looking to Nicole for comfort.
When they were stuck in an elevator together, EJ and Nicole gave into their feelings and made love, to be discovered by a furious Sami. Eventually, Nicole Walker, who said she was barren before they had made love, revealed that she was in fact pregnant with EJ's baby.
Wary, EJ had Nicole take a paternity test which proved that he was in fact the baby's father. EJ told a pleased Stefano that he'd have more DiMera heirs. EJ saved Sami's life when someone attempted to shoot her for witnessing the murder of Mayor Marino. Sami was taken away into a witness protection program, leaving EJ to care for Johnny.
Meanwhile, with Nicole arrested for the murder of Trent Robbins, EJ worked hard to get her out on bail. EJ looked Johnny and continues to reassure Nicole that he wants a future with her and their baby, but Nicole lost their baby while he was away on business and faked the rest of the pregnancy with a pregnancy pad, blackmailed Dr.
Baker so he'd go along with it and she found a young mother, Mia McKormick, who gave birth and sold her Sydney for 10K, which EJ gave to her for a wedding gown. Nicole feigned giving birth and swapped babies when Sami gave birth to EJ's daughter, the same day. EJ wasn't aware of any of this, but can tell Nicole is hiding something. He found out from Sami,when Grace died, that Grace was his but she's not and tried to punish Sami for keeping the truth from him by taking full custody of Johnny from her but Nicole put a stop to that.
In the meantime, when Stefano was kidnapped by Victor, during all of this, he had Stephanie kidnapped by Owen, the gardener and spy who worked for the Kiriakis'. Eventually, Stephanie was freed by Philip, and the families have since decided to stop feuding. EJ learned that Nicole miscarried their child and faked her pregnancy and then stole Sami's "adopted baby" Sydney, who she found out was really EJ's kid.
She pawned the child off as her own. EJ learned the truth and in his rage to hurt Sami for lying about Sydney being his child, he kidnapped Sydney with Anna DiMera's help and 5 grand! EJ became depressed and thought about suicide but that same night, Sami found him with the gun, drunken and passed out at the DiMera mansion and she shot EJ in the head.
EJ spent a few days in the hospital and left without even a bandaid. He's fine and back seeking revenge on Sami. He took their kids from her once he learned what she did to him and vowed he'd send her to jail if she stepped foot near them. Weeks went on like this and he allowed Nicole to come into their lives again and live in the guest house until Johnny was found to have Retinoblastoma, a childhood eye cancer.
EJ bartered with God that if he spared Johnny's life and sight, he'd allow Sami back into their kids lives. Johnny lost one of the two eyes and can see out of the one left.
EJ drew up new custody agreements and is allowing Sami to be part of the children's lives but she's against him marrying Nicole, who he thinks is good for the kids. EJ doesn't want Rafe in their lives so he and Stefano had created a doppelganger to replace Rafe.
The real Rafe was be locked up in the DiMera cellar. In December , Scott revealed that he was considering branching out into other mediums and hinted at the possibility of retiring from acting. In late September , Soap Opera Digest revealed that James would depart the series when his contract expired.
However, negotiations continued shortly after the news broke about Scott's potential departure. James issued the following statement: "It has always been my wish to continue working with Days of our Lives, and in light of recent reassurances given, I am optimistic of my future here at Days.
On October 5, it was confirmed that Scott had re-signed with the series for another year with his contract set to expire in April Scott later extended his stay for another year. On May 2, , Soap Opera Digest confirmed that Scott had wrapped filming and would exit the series screen sometime in the fall.
Prior to his debut, Scott revealed that there were some similarities between his new character, and his former alter ego Ethan Cambias. The only thing Scott was told about his character was that he was a race-car driver. Though it does not completely define the character, it does affect who EJ is. EJ is not easily affected by everyday life because he is used to operating in high pressure situations, like racing.
Whenever his life is in danger and he is forced to make a decision, it puts EJ at "ease". Scott was allowed to use his natural British accent in his portrayal of EJ.
In , BuddyTV referred to the character as a "dashing" anti-hero, because he is a "good guy" and a "bad guy" all in one. EJ, like any other person, has a dark side to him. In , Deanna Barnert described the character as "nefarious. At the time, Susan , a Kristen Blake look alike, is paid to give birth to a baby that would then be adopted by Kristen. Susan realizes that Kristen is deceptive and cruel, while John is loving and noble. As the real mother of the child that Kristen and John claim as theirs, Susan plans to take Kristen's place at John's side and in his bed.
Marlena Evans , however, manages to foil the plans of both Kristen and Susan; Marlena and John reunite, and Susan is content to then find love with Edmund Crumb. EJ enjoys his childhood and claims that he and his father have an excellent relationship. After Sami gets him through the road blocks EJ then tells her to get out of the car.
Sami refuses and tells him that since she helped him he must help her save Lucas Horton 's life. EJ agrees to help her only if she has sex with him in exchange for saving Lucas; reluctantly, Sami agrees. Afterward, he helps Sami get a beam off of Lucas, but then leaves them to die in the snow with no way out.
EJ brainwashes Steve Johnson and forces him to kidnap a comatose John Black, and transplants one of his kidneys into a dying Stefano. When Sami learns she is pregnant, Celeste Perrault reveals that EJ is the child's father but warns him that Stefano wouldn't approve. His brother, Tony DiMera convinces him to kidnap Sami and harvest the stem cells from the unborn child to save Stefano's life.
EJ changes his mind and helps Sami escape at the last minute. Sami later learns she is carrying twins and Stefano orders them to marry so they can end the feud between the Brady and DiMera families once and for all.
Sami welcomes her twins in October and it turns out that Lucas fathered the little girl, Allie and EJ fathered the little boy, Johnny. After John is killed in a hit and run accident, Sami marries EJ in November , blackmailed by Stefano and EJ and against her will, but he is shot at the altar by Lucas it is later that we find that Will, Lucas' son is the one that actually shot EJ.
EJ promises to change and set a good example for the twins while Lucas is arrested for EJ's shooting. Later, Sami's mother Marlena Evans gives him a chance to redeem himself by bringing down his father. EJ knew that a brainwashed John Black was in the basement of the DiMera mansion and decides to reunite him with his family in January To stay safe from Stefano, EJ and Sami move into a safe house where they bond over raising the twins.
They plan to have the marriage annulled but the death of Sami's grandpa, Shawn forces them to put it off. When they finally get another chance, EJ puts it off by pretending that his visa has expired and Sami agrees to prolong the marriage until he can deal with immigration. Meanwhile, EJ and Sami make love for the first time in May , just in time for Lucas to be released from prison and catch them in bed.
Sami discovers EJ's ploy to stay married to her by bribing the immigration agent, and their annulment is finalized soon after. In July , EJ and Nicole get trapped in an elevator together and end up having sex. Nicole learns she is pregnant but hides it when she has a miscarriage. Nicole also learns that Sami is pregnant by EJ and plans to keep it from him.
However, she later switches Mia's baby with Sami's baby. EJ and Nicole marry in April EJ went to war with Philip Kiriakis and his father Victor briefly but they soon call a truce.
